An Oldie but a Goodie: Hot Words for the SAT
My tutor told me about this book, and my tutor’s tutor told her about this book, and now I’m telling you.
Ok I’m not really sure about my tutor’s tutor, but this is definitely a classic that belongs in any high school student’s toolbox. Hot Words for the SAT (Amazon affiliate link) organizes words by topic, not by frequency or alphabetically (Whoever thought that would be a good idea anyway? Thanks to Word Smart, there are now millions of kids who know nothing but words that start with “a”).
Each “chapter” is simply a group of related words. For example, the first chapter contains these useful words:
- brevity
- concise
- laconic
- pithy
- quiescent
- reticent
- succinct
- taciturn
- terse
This is a fantastic way to learn words, especially if you use the quizzes at the end of each section. If you’re studying for the SAT, grab this book NOW and free yourself from the tyranny of the letter “A”!
